Product Ranges for Black Men: Afro Hair/ Skin Products UK

My younger brother just turned 30 and we don't often talk about my blog, as he just sees it as some girl thing I like to do. One day he asked me: "What products are out there for men?". I then had a similar conversation with a work colleague who is mixed race. He had been quizzing me about products for his sister then touched his shaved head and said, "wish there were some decent products for me!"

Most other products used by women can be used by men, know the ingredients that your hair loves and check out these UK natural ranges:

Now that you have some products to try, here are a few tips to get you started.
1. Do not over cleanse your hair. By washing your hair too often, Harsh detergents in main stream shampoos can strip your hair of its natural oils. This can cause scalp problems like dandruff.

2. Remember: Shampoo Roots, Condition Ends. Concentrate on the scalp when shampooing, a clean scalp facilitates healthy hair growth. The ends of your hair are the oldest part and require the most attention when conditioning.

3. Balance Protein and Moisture in your Conditioners. Both are important for healthy hair growth. Moisture gives your hair elasticity so it does not break as easily when styling and protein gives your hair strength. Alternate between them if possible.

4. Moisturise frequently. Due to the curl pattern of afro hair oils do not always make it to the ends of the hair. Find a good light, water based moisturiser and seal that moisture in with an oil.
5. Avoid mineral oil- and petroleum-based hair products. These products clog the pores and impede hair growth. Use light oils such as jojoba which is excellent for dry hair.

6. Eat a well balanced diet and exercise. Exercise, increases circulation and encourages blood flow to the hair follicles. A diet rich in protein, vitamins and iron, feeds the hair and encourages healthy hair growth.
