50 Shades of Jamaican Black Castor Oil: What Colour Is It?

Hi All

Here are some pictures of three of the brands of Jamaican Black Castor Oil currently on the market in the UK: Sunny Isle, Tropic Isle and Fountain. The colour of authentic 100% Jamaican Black Castor Oil can be described as golden brown to dark brown.

This first picture is of the Fountain Jamaican Oils Collection. The colour can be Pimento Oil can be seen to be olive/brown colour and the Jamaican Black Castor Oil Hair Food could be described as golden brown.

Along with the brown 100% pure and authentic Jamaican Black Castor Oil, Fountainʼs Jamaican Black Castor Oil Liquid Hair Food, contains Jojoba Oil and Peppermint.

The colour of this oil is golden/ dark brown and the addition of Jojoba Oil enhances its properties and does not hinder the benefits of this castor oil. Jojoba oil penetrates the hair shaft to loosen and dissolve sebum build up, creating a healthier scalp and peppermint enhances the castor oilʼs ability to stimulate circulation in the scalp. Even with these additions the product is mostly Jamaican Black Castor Oil and retains that distinct brown colour. The Jamaican Black Castor Oil Hair Food is pictured here with the Fountain Pimento Oil which is on the left. This also contains Jamaican Black Castor Oil but is a on olive green/ brown colour. It is a combination of Pimento Oil, Jamaican Black Castor Oil, Lemongrass, Annato Seed, Peppermint and Nutmeg.

Tropic Isle Jamaican Black Castor Oil

Tropic Isle Jamaican Black Castor Oil is described as having a a rich golden brown colour. Tropic Isle lightly roast their castor beans. By doing this they say that the burnt residues do not become a part of the oil, and they do not over process the oil as together they make the oil thicker.

Here is seen next to Tropic Isle Jamaican Black Castor Oil and they are both seen to be a light golden brown colour.

However Tropic Isle is seen to be a much lighter colour than the Sunny Isle regular Jamaican Black Castor Oil.

Here is an image of the Sunny Isle Extra Dark Jamaican Black Castor Oil which can be seen to have a much darker colour than the others.

Sunny Isle Extra Dark Jamaican Black Castor Oil

In order to make the Extra Dark Jamaican Black Castor Oil, Sunny Isle roast their castor beans for a longer period resulting in greater ash content which means that the oil is slightly darker. They claim this makes the oil more effective. Here is the Extra Dark Variety along side Jojoba Oil.

Here is an image showing the Regular Jamaican Black Castor Oil alongside the extra Dark Jamaican Black Castor oil. The Extra Dark is an even darker colour than the regular Sunny Isle Jamaican Black Castor Oil.

Those of you that are familiar with the fragranced varieties of Sunny Isle Jamaican Black Castor Oil can see from this picture that all three are the same colour.

This image shows the Roasemary and YlangYlang Jamaican Black Castor Oil alonside the Sunny Isle Jojoba Oil which is is bright yellow colour.

So just in case you couldn't keep up:

Tropic Isle Jamaican Black Castor Oil - light to golden brown
