Self Relaxing Black Hair - November 2009

Twelve weeks and 3 days since my last relaxer I finally got around to relaxing my hair today.

However the process of getting my hair ready started last Saturday when I Clarified using the

Curls Citrus clarifying shampoo

Unfortunately I forgot to Protect/ Moisturise my hair by having a wash day on Wednesday as my regime stipulates.

I then divided my hair into six sections, prepared the hair by putting coconut oil on the hairline and any part of the scalp that was itchy. and put JBCO on the ends to protect them from overprocessing.

Relaxed the hair with Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil Relaxer using a timer.

Washed out the relaxer with lots of water

Then used using Elasta QP DPR 11 as post relaxer conditioner- left on for 5 minutes

Then washed out then used nuetralising shampoo 9 times
I can't stress how important it is to make sure all the relaxer is washed out

Then I conditioned with Vital Force Creme Bath and JBCO

Coming soon Self Relaxing Video

Knots, Knots and more Knots

My first set back, i just had to cut six massive knots out of my hair. I am usually so careful to gently detangle my hair in the shower and stupidly forgot. Just got back from seeing 'New Moon' at the cinema and put my hand through my hair, OMG all I got was a handful of knots.

Nooo!! I am so angry with myself, I was really trying so hard. URGG!

NeeWay! I hope I didn't cut too much out, I just started my count down to self relaxing by doing a Clarifying shampoo on Sunday and I plan to protect on Tuesday/Wednesday. Hopefully after the relaxer it wont tangle so much.

So I thought to avoid this I would jump on the Dragon's Den bandwagon and try that Tangle Teaser thing with full review here for you. Now available in four different colours from AfroTherapy @ £9.99 or check out Leilu's Amazon for £9.78.

Wish me luck

New Regime - Nov 2009

Hi There,

Because I am stretching my hair (currently 11 weeks post relaxer) and because the weather has changed i.e. it is much colder, windy and rainy outside and the heating is on (dries out my hair), I have tweaked my regime quit a bit.

Mainly beacuse of the stretching and so I can manage it I wash my hair Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. I co wash during the week and shampoo on Sunday.

I am always saying to stick with what works for your hair and in order to try and keep the length while I am streching the length of time between relaxers, I have gone back to using some phyto specific products

Tuesday and Thursday

PrePoo - Olive Oil/Coconut Oil
Deep Condition -PhytoJojoba - for Moisture

PrePoo - Hello Hydraton and Olive Oil/Coconut Oil

Got my GHDs out

After 10 weeks a bit of heat has to be allowed, I was having trouble getting my hair up in the mornings beacase the castor oil has made it so thick, thicker than my hair has ever been. I has started using Olive Oil and Coconut Oil so as to let up on the use of castor oil. Also I had a special event to go to so I thought I'd give myself a break.

Anyway here is a pic after straightening with my GHDs (these are so hot, they shouldnt be legal.. LOL! they really do the job)

Not sure what it will look like after relaxing but I think a subtle trim will be in order soon. Off to watch Dirty Dancing now, will post more in a couple of days!

Clairol Herbal Essesnces Conditoners

I don't know if I should be but I am quite impressed with these two conditioners from herbal essences. Neither costs that much and you can get them from most retailers on the high street.
The 'breakage defender' (pearl, coconut and mango extracts) is great as a co-wash and works amazingly as a detangler. The 'hello hydration' ( coconut and orchid extract) is my prepoo conditioner and I love the coconutty smell.

Ingredients: Water, Stearyl Alcohol, Cetyl Alcohol, Stearamidopropyl Dimethylamine, Vanilla Planifolia Fruit Extract, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Fruit Extract, Glutamic Acid, Fragrance, Bis-Aminopropyl Dimethicone, Benzyl Alcohol, Edta, Propylene Glycol, Methylchloroisothiazolinone; Methylisothiazolinone; Blue 1

Price: approx. £3.40, and it can be purchased from most high street retailers and Leilu's Amazon.

Trying my hand at protective styles!

Hi there,
I said I would post pics of how I was getting on with stretching my relaxer and trying my hand at protective styles.

10 weeks post relaxer, not that much growth, but I think I can probably make it to 12 weeks

Most of the styles I do to protect my hair end up with a twist of the longer hair at the back

Sometimes I part the hair at the back and plait it, very simple ad easy and becomes a partially braid out when undone.

Headbands are always an easy option in the morning. I always like to try different styles. Primark and Tesco always a good source.

Finally, This is my attempt at canerows.

Hope my pics give you some ideas, Sorry the quality of the styles is not great but I am 10 weeks post relaxer.

How Long Can I Go!

Currently 9 weeks post relaxer. This is probably the longest I have ever left my hair since I stopped wearing weaves and started my journey. Oh My , that JBCO really made it thick. Using Olive Oil and Coconut Oil to seal in moisture at the mo. I have just been too busy to start my Self Relaxing regime.

How long have you left it between relaxers?
