Home Again Film Premiere: If you see one film this year...

...Make it this one!
Last week I got the chance to go to the premiere of Home Again. The star-studded cast of a Jamaican deportee drama (starring Paul Campbell and Tatyana Ali) was in London for a glamorous screening at the British Museum in London. Home Again was directed and produced by the husband-and-wife duo of Sudz Sutherland and screenwriter Janice Holness.

The movie was made to inspire debate and I think it hit the nail on the head:

Marva, Dunston, and Everton grew up in Toronto, New York and London, respectively but are deported ‘home’ to Jamaica. Once in Kingston they discover every day is a fight for survival where family support, friendships, and shelter are elusive. They embark on a journey that pushes their endurance beyond measure and forces them to discover who they truly are. A searing, fast paced drama Home Again asks the question, “How would you survive?”.

Never before has the story of deportees been told cinematically. This powerful, visually stunning political drama by award winning director Sudz Sutherland stars Tatyana Ali, Lyriq Bent, CCH Pounder, Stephan James and singer songwriter Fefe Dobson in her debut feature film role.

During the VIP champagne reception we were lucky enough to meet Lynford Christie and Jimmy Akinbola (Malik from Holby). Joliette was really made up after meeting Mr. Christie.

The movie made me both laugh and cry and the atmosphere in the theatre was palpable at times. There was just enough drama mixed in with comedy to keep everyone entertained. At points it was brutal showing a reality that is everyday life for some In Jamaica, the lady next to me kept jumping during the more sinister parts.

After the movie there was a question and answer section but I wasn't able to stay for all of it as we had a long way to go and the movie had started a bit later than we anticipated. All in all we had an amazing time and I would encourage you to go see this film and support it.
Home Again will be in UK cinemas November 15th
